Jeffrey Sebelia Biography
Jeffrey Sebelia is an American fashion designer best known for founding the clothing label, Cosa Nostra. He is noted to have headed the label from a loft on Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles. He is also the winner of the third season of the reality show, “Project Runway” in 2006.
Jeffrey started his career as a singer with the band, Lifter along with Mike Coulter and John Rozas. In the early ’90s, the band was signed to Interscope records. In those times, they started gaining recognition after releasing the minor hit song “402”. However, despite their success, they disbanded some years later.
In his early years, Jeffrey had a severe drug problem that hindered his work. He went through a tough but successful rehabilitation when he was 31. After that, he joined the Los Angeles Trade Technical College where he took sewing classes. In this time, he started loving designing clothes and shortly after, he started his line, Cosa Nostra.
The label has become successful over the years garnering celebrity clients like Dave Navarro, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marilyn Manson, Elton John, Madonna, and Tommy Lee. The label was available to various countries and had about 20 stores worldwide.

Jeffrey childhood was very complicated. His relationship with his father was violent. At age 8, his parents got divorced. He then started using cocaine and marijuana because he felt like he was to blame for all that was happening. By the time he was 16, he was so addicted to heroin. Sebelia shared a violent relationship with his father, who divorced his mother when Jeffrey was 8. Later, Jeffrey, who felt responsible for the divorce, began using cocaine and marijuana. The following 15 years were filled with numerous, yet failed, attempts to get sober at a number of West Coast drug treatment centers. Before the show, Sebelia had lived with his girlfriend and their young son, Harrison. However, after completing Project Runway Sebelia separated from his girlfriend. It was Harrison, Sebelia’s son, who inspired his trademark neck tattoo which took more than eight hours to complete. The tattoo reads “Harrison Detroit l’amor de la mia vita.” It is his son’s name, along with the phrase “the love of my life,” in Italian. In 2006, he auditioned for a spot in the Bravo series ‘Project Runway’ after seeing his friend, Santino Rice, succeed. He managed to secure himself a spot in the show. He became one of the final four contestants to display their collections at Fashion Week. Later, he was chosen as the overall winner of the competition.
Jeffrey’s winning collection featured bright colors, flowing dresses and smart separates that were considered considerably different from the trademark grunge, punk, and rock n’ roll style outfits he was creating throughout the season.

His win in project runway got him US$ 100,000, a year’s representation by Designer’s Management Agency, and a 15-page spread – featuring Marilinda Rivera. Jeffrey took his $100,000 and invested it in his brand Cosa Nostra. In 2007, he was to design a live-action film featuring the Bratz cartoon characters. He, however, lost the job after referring to the characters as “slutty’ in an interview.
Two years later, Jeffrey’s brand, Cosa Nostra failed. Soon after, he launched an eponymous brand but that also failed. The year after, he started working as the designer for th Fluxus brand. After a while, he dropped that job and introduced edgy kids line La Miniatura with Melissa Bochco.
In 2013, he returned to Project Runway but this time in the third season of the All-Stars version. He emerged as in 7th place out of 11 contestants.
