Why Didn't The Avengers Resurrect Vision After Endgame?

As we learned on WandaVision, the MCUs android Avenger is still dead. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) has a prop version of her lover walking about in Westview, but the real Vision (Paul Bettany) is just the blank corpse Thanos left him as.

As we learned on WandaVision, the MCU’s android Avenger is still dead. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) has a prop version of her lover walking about in Westview, but the real Vision (Paul Bettany) is just the blank corpse Thanos left him as.

The one strange thing is none of the Avengers tried to resurrect him. War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Captain America (Chris Evans), and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) were all there in the Infinity War aftermath. Yet, the Vision's corpse got disregarded in the end.

While Earth’s Mightiest Heroes left one of their own to a limbo-like existence, someone is trying to rectify things on his behalf.

Spoiler Alert!

A recent episode of WandaVision revealed that S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation Report Division) got their hands on the Vision’s lifeless body. Hints on the Disney+ show pointed to the SHIELD off-shoot stealing the corpse from Wanda. But, that's only half the truth.

The clandestine organization was working on Project Cataract, with the aim being to resurrect Vision. The technical aspects are still unclear, but what we know now is Wanda interrupted their progress. Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) tried to inform Wanda of the plan to revive her dead boyfriend, but the Scarlet Witch is rather stubborn. And someone else is distracting her, too.

The silver lining is that Vision’s resurrection is at least one person's top priority. Whether it’s Hayward (Josh Stamberg) or another top official at S.W.O.R.D., someone will finish the mission at some point. Hayward is hellbent on rescuing Westview, but his secondary motivation is likely to reacquire the android Avenger.

People forget that Vision is an Avenger outcast who stood alongside Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) to defend the Sokovia Accords. He violated them by leaving with Wanda in Infinity War, but as far as the U.S. government knows, Vision is still one of their allies. Because he is, there's reason enough to devote valuable resources to this endeavor.

Who Will Revive The Fallen Avenger?

It’s worth mentioning that S.W.O.R.D. might not be capable of reviving Vision either. The organization has had years to work on the synthezoid corpse but has yet to succeed. What that tells us is they aren't able to, and someone else has to step up. The question is, who?

While the actual answer may be more complicated than we expect—and a combination of multiple heroes' help—it appears Wanda will put the pieces together. One of the earlier WandaVision promos offered a brief look at the Scarlet Witch reforging what appeared to be the Mind Stone. Background in the scene matches Wanda’s home, so this likely happens following her encounter with Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn). Perhaps the realization that another sorceress is pulling the strings will snap Wanda out of her daze, enough so that she gathers the strength needed to reform an Infinity Stone.

The prospect of recreating the Mind Stone sounds farfetched, but stranger things have happened in the MCU. Think about everything that happened in Avengers: Endgame. Plus, Wanda’s powers being so closely tied to the stone make her capable of the impossible. Her powers originated from it, and she shattered the Mind Stone once before. That means the Scarlet Witch can probably repeat the process again, just in reverse.
